Since its earliest days, photography has existed at the crossroads of art and technology. In her work, Elzbieta (Ela) Kurowska continues the long tradition of photographers as experimenters, tinkerers and, perhaps, alchemists. A Ph.D. bio-chemist, she uses photoelastic gels and cross-polarized light to see into a beautiful world of light and color that seems to resemble both inner and outer space. Removed from the laboratory context and re-homed in gallery exhibitions and fine arts publications, her “Light Forms” fit perfectly with the most engaging contemporary color abstractions. Through imagination’s telescope or microscope, Ela Kurowska's images richly reward the closest attention.
